Overview
BMD Publishing is a specialist publishing business. As COO, I held responsibility for the operational, technology and commercial sides of the business, working alongside the management team to develop and deliver digital products, improve operational systems and support business growth.
My role
As COO, my work spanned digital product development, technology infrastructure, team management, supplier coordination, customer systems, subscription and revenue operations, content management and business development.
This was a hands-on role that combined strategic input at management level with direct involvement in technical delivery and day-to-day operations.
Work completed
Digital product management
I managed the development and operation of digital products within BMD Publishing, working with developers and content teams to plan, prioritise, deliver and improve digital services. This included managing backlogs, reviewing technical proposals, overseeing releases and coordinating cross-functional work.
Technology oversight
I provided operational oversight of the technology infrastructure and systems used within the business, including cloud hosting, content management, customer data systems, integrations and third-party services. I worked directly on technical tasks where appropriate and managed developer and supplier relationships.
Commercial and subscription operations
I was involved in subscription management, customer communications, renewal and retention processes, pricing decisions and revenue operations. This included working on the systems and processes used to manage the customer lifecycle from initial acquisition through to renewal.
Operational leadership
In addition to digital and technology work, I held broader operational responsibility including team management, business planning, supplier negotiation, tender preparation and process improvement. I worked with external agencies, developers, content suppliers and commercial partners.
